Controversy Surrounds Checo Pérez's Performance in Mexico GP

Red Bull's chief, Christian Horner, expressed his dissatisfaction with Sergio Pérez's performance at the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix. Despite the Mexican driver being contracted to the team until 2025, Horner questioned his continuity after the performance shown at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. In the post-race press conference, Horner emphasized the importance of achieving results in Formula 1 and the need for both team cars to score points.

Horner mentioned that they will continue to support Checo and will work with him at the next Grand Prix in Sao Paulo, but indicated that there is a limit regarding driver performance. He highlighted that Formula 1 is a results-based business, and when a driver does not meet expectations, they are subjected to constant scrutiny.

On the other hand, Helmut Marko, Red Bull's advisor, took a more understanding stance towards Sergio Pérez, arguing that the circumstances did not favor the driver during the race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Marko explained that due to the crash he had with Liam Lawson, Pérez's car suffered significant damage that limited its performance on track, so his performance cannot be judged under those conditions.
